Shootout at the Louis Joliet Mall

Two suspects are in custody after a shooting Tuesday evening outside the Louis Joliet Mall. Gunfire was exchanged between U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents and the suspects who were under investigation.

Police reported no officers or civilians were injured in the shooting. One of the suspects, 31-year-old Adan Godinez of Morris, was struck in the leg. He was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Another individual, 43-year-old Fernando Godinez of Cicero was arrested and taken into custody.

A witness reported between 20 and 30 shots were fired during the shootout.

Fatal fire under investigation in Fairmount

An investigation was underway Tuesday to determine what leveled a rural Fairmount home...resulting in at least two fatalities.

Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson confirms the two fatalities.

Fairmount Fire Chief Dave Ferber said the structure at 2716 East 1333 North Road totally collapsed and was in the basement when the first fire units arrived on the scene.

Mutual aid came from neighboring departments. The Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department and Illinois State Fire Marshal were also on the scene.

The cause of the explosion and fire remains undetermined.

Iroquois deputy suffers broken arm, suspect arrested

Iroquois County Sheriff deputy Clint Perzee is recovering from severe injuries after he was injured (Friday) arresting a suspect in rural Milford.

Perzee suffered a broken arm, dislocated finger and was stitched up to close a lacerated arm. The deputy was struck by a tomahawk thrown at him by a suspect who was being arrested for Predatory Sexual Assault of a Child.

29-year-old Kevin Funk is jailed on a $500,000 bond. He’s charged with Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer and Attempted Murder for the assault of the officer.

Funk also faces 3-counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault and 3-counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse.

Sheriff’s Police had gone to the rural Milford residence (1131 N 1800 E Road) to arrest Funk on the sexual assault case. Police report during conversation and Funk and deputies, Funk managed to arm himself with a tomahawk, throwing it at Officer Perzee.

The deputy raised his arm to protect his head, the tomahawk striking his arm. Additional deputies responded and placed Funk in custody without further incident.

State Police investigate 2 accidents at Routes 24/52 in Iroquois County

Emergency personnel had a busy day (Monday) at Routes 24/52 at Sheldon where two accidents happened. Illinois State Police and IMH ambulance personnel were at the scene; a second mishap happened as the first was being investigated.

Janice Cook-Herreweyers of Sheldon was one of five involved in one accident that also involved a Kansas family. Herreweyers was northbound on 52, failed to yield and drove into the path of an SUV at the intersection. The driver of the SUV (Chris Jackson of Kansas) nor his three passengers were injured.

A Momence man was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way in a second collision. Jack tedford was northbound on 4th Street in Sheldon at the intersection. He was attempting to head north on Route 52 when he collided with an eastbound car operated by a New Whiteland, IN driver.

Injuries were not life-threatening.

Newton County stab victims identified

Newton County, Indiana Coroner Scott McCord has identified the three victims of a gruesome stabbing that occurred Sunday night in Sumava Resorts.  All three were stabbed multiple times, according to autopsy results completed Monday.

The victims included 23-year-old Richard Thomas, 39-year-old Kimblerly Spears and 20-year-old Justin Babbs.  All were living at the duplex home in the small Newton County community.

24-year-old Sebastian Wedding of Cedar Lake (IN) was arrested.  He's jailed in Newton County.  The charge is murder.  

Sheriff's Police it was an isolated incident.  No one is in damger.
